Bio

Fran is a nationally acclaimed artist,born in Oak Park Illinois and currently resides in Anna Illinois. She began painting in 1994 after meeting an artist who showed her the Australian aboriginal dot art technique of the Papunya Tula school. Her inspiration has come from her many travels at home and abroad where she became facinated with tribal and ethnic art. Her mission has been to bring together spiritual symbols and imagery of all cultures to illuminate the similarities and unity of the human spirit that has existed since the beginning of time.

Fran has created original paintings on natural canvases, such as gourds, as a symbol of unity with our ancestors. She is know for using individual dots of acrylic paint to create the illusion of beading, which comes together in colorful images. She has also incorporated dyes and faux batik methods into her work.

Fran's mission remains intact as she embarks on broadening her artistic repetoire. In 2009, she began painting in a more traditional style with acrylic paint on canvas. She is still trying to depict the commonalities of all human beings through more subltle studies while keeping some of the whimsy she has always brought to her work.

Fran has won several awards including Best of category at the 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010,2009, 2008 and 2007 Evanston Lakeshore Art Festival, Evanston, IL; an Award of Excellence at the 2008 Orchard Lake Art Festival, Orchard Lake, MI; The Administrative Counselors Award sponsored by the John R. and Eleanor Mitchell Foundation at the Cedarhurst Craft Festival, Mt. Vernon, IL; Best of Category at the Cedarhurst Craft Festival in 2007; The Award of Excellence at the 2007 Missouri Festival For The Arts (MOSAICS), St. Charles, MO; a Merit Award at the 2007 Stars and Stripes Art Festival in the Detroit, MI area, and an honorable mention award at the 2012 and 2013 Summit Art Festival in Lee's Summit MO.

Fran is proud to be a part of the Illinois Artisans Program and frequently has work on display and for sale at the Rend Lake Museum Shop in Whittington, IL.
